Foreigners Club Hotel Santo Domingo is a 10-room bed and breakfast hotel and hostal offering elegance and comfort in an Art Deco style. The Foreigners Club is the perfect spot for an extended vacation or a weekend getaway.
If you are interested in experiencing a pure Dominican neighborhood, then this is the place to do so. This is authentic Dominican Republic life, with residential homes, merchants, shops and schools all mixed together- alive, bustling, noisy at times- like a small town. Palm trees and the Carribean Ocean is the backdrop.
We are not an anonymous big-box hotel, or a fancy overpriced tourist trap. We are proud of what makes us different- our high level of personal service and care, our hospitality and our high level of security. While we feature most all of the amenities offered at higher priced hotels, we are much more affordable. We offer simple, practical elegance- very affordable, very clean, very comfortable and very safe. This combination is not easily found elsewhere.
Our rooms are all slightly different, from our more hostal style rooms for travellers on a budget, to our more spacious and luxurious rooms and suites. All rooms are modern and clean and include private bath with hot and cold shower; air-conditioner units; ceiling fan; bar fridge; digital cable TV; lock-box; table and chair, storage space, wardrobe and shelves; twin, double or queen size beds. We have a two-room suite with two beds (can sleep 3 people). Some rooms have balconies. We also have a courtyard and roof-deck space which is available for guests to lounge, sunbathe, or for parties. Laundry and kitchen facilities are available for longer term guests.
All taxes are included in our prices as is our continental-style breakfast. We do not charge for an extra guest, like most other hotels here do. We offer an airport pick-up and drop-off service. (Breakfast includes coffee; teas; milk; juices; cereals; breads; jams and butter; yogurt, eggs and seasonal fruit: mango, papaya, pineapple etc.)
We are located in Santo Domingo, the largest city in the Carribean, at the edge of the Colonial Zone (Zona Colonial) and the New Zone (Zona Nueve). We are a few blocks from the Caribbean Ocean and one block from Parque Independencia and Calle El Conde.
The nostalgic veneer of the Colonial Zone, largely designed for tourist shopping, can be charming but is somewhat cut off from the present, real DR culture that you can experience at Foreigner's Club.
Outside of the hotel in the morning, the sidewalk is alive with children in uniforms from the private school across the street (San Pio X) and the air is filled with their morning songs. Vendors- women with fruit baskets on their heads and men with donkey carts full of vegetables, sell their wares. During the afternoon old men play chess outside on the sidewalk. Right across from us, there is a "colmado", a corner grocery store, where people sit around in chairs drinking "cervezas". At times wandering bachata bands erupt in music and the people dance. Caddy corner from us- Antonio, a barber who has been cutting hair for the last 50 years; and at the other corner, a typical "hole-in-the-wall" restaurant that serves the best rice and beans.
What sets the Foreigners Club apart is how at home you are going to feel. We provide a warm and close atmosphere of personal contact between staff and other guests that is not found in other hotels. Owner, Manager, Concierge, even Security Staff all interact with guests, who compare notes and make plans with other guests. Staff are there and help in any way- giving the best information possible- practical suggestions and advice for fun activities. To hook you up with the right taxi's; where to find live music; markets; art; theater; botanical gardens; museums; eco-tours; evening plans; inexpensive or high-end restaurants; relaxed or crazy night-clubs; or to help you get to one of the many amazing near-by beaches or attractions, in the city or across the island.
The Dominican Republic is an exciting mix of tropical pleasures, beautiful beaches and lush tropical interior. Santo Domingo has a throbbing night life and historic treasures. First discovered in the early 1600's, Santo Domingo is the oldest city in the Americas.
The Foreigners Club Hotel is nestled 2 blocks from the original arched entrance gate to the walled Colonial Zone. A 4-block walk from our front door in one direction takes you to the Malecon which is the road that runs along the Caribbean sea. Walking the other direction 1-block will take you to the Gascue area, Parque Independencia and the entrance to Calle el Conde- the road that runs through the center of the old city. Here you will have access to all types of restaurants, gift shops, and all the history in this the city of firsts.
